The Kilns at Te Horo
The Kilns at Te Horo offer visitors a rare opportunity to experience a remarkable piece of Kāpiti creative history. This Category 2 historic site is home to beautifully restored, hand-built brick beehive kilns created by internationally celebrated potter Mirek Smíšek, who lived and worked in Te Horo from 1969 to 1997.
Today, the site continues to celebrate clay, craftsmanship, and community, bringing together a collection of potters whose work carries the spirit of this special place into the present day.
