Here we are in our 25th year!
The Kāpiti Coast Art Trail is an exciting and unique opportunity for artists to interact with visitors, grow their customer base, showcase their wonderful talent, sell their work, and draw visitors to the beautiful Kāpiti Coast district. The Art Trail is seen as mutually beneficial to all involved and is considered to be one of the biggest community events on the Council’s annual event calendar.
Artists can choose to open their own studios to the public or collaborate with others in informal or permanent shared spaces or galleries. There are lots of options, especially for newbies wanting to get a taste of the Art Trail scene.
Feedback is important to us, and every year after the Art Trail we run both visitor and artist surveys each year to check out how it went and how we can improve. Our visitor survey last year made clear to us that one thing that makes the Art Trail here in the Kāpiti Coast so special is being able to meet artists in their own locations and getting a glimpse of how they create their magic. The kaupapa of the Art Trail continues to be 'Artist in Studio', as it has been for many years.
A key change to note this year is that the number of participating artists will be limited due to the popularity of this great event. As disappointing as this may be for some, without limiting the number of participating artists, the cost of delivering the Art Trail increases (for such things as printing and design costs; equipment and set up costs etc,). We will be accepting approximately 140 artists (which is roughly the participating amount from last year), a certain number of spaces will be reserved for Exhibition Spaces and for new and emerging artists, and selection process will be generally based on a “first in, first served” basis, with suburb and medium taken into account to ensure a good spread across the district.
Before registering to be part of this extraordinary event, be sure to read our updated Terms & Conditions for information about fees and artist criteria. For any queries or further information, please reach out to our friendly Art Trail Team.
Artist's registrations are open until midnight, Sunday 31 March.
